1.1 By Data Type

From to most generic to the most specific, data that may be recorded with the (libx1f4l2) data structures may be:

• Unstructured, variable length data
• Unstructured, fixed size data
• Structured, i.e. data that has a C type, be it unsigned, double, const void * or whatever.

For the first two genres, there may be available data structure manipulation routines that identify records by some typed field (for an instance, an unsigned field to be found at a specified byte offset in otherwise variable length, unstructured data records).
